Who Can Service my New Car?

We Can Service Your New Car … and You Keep Your Manufacturer’s Warranty intact.

If you’ve purchased a new car from a main dealer, you’ve probably found them nudging you towards their own servicing department to have your new car serviced. It might even have been hinted at that servicing your new car elsewhere would void your manufactures warranty .. this is NOT true.

CORK AUTO SERVICES who-can-service-my-new-car?

Does a new car have to be serviced at the dealership?

No, a new car does NOT have to be serviced at a dealership. Under the EU Competition Law, (since October 2003), you have the right to choose any professional garage, which can be a main dealer OR any Professional Independent Garage that adheres to and carries out all work to manufacturers’ specification.

* Providing parts and fluids of Original Equipment (OE) quality have been used in accordance with manufacturer’s service schedules, you will NOT invalidate the warranty. So, an independent professional garage such as Cork Auto Services can service a brand new car.

It is important to be aware that no car dealer or main dealer garage can compel you to service your car in-house with them at the threat of losing your manufacture’s warranty coverage if you don’t!

Your ‘Right2Choose’ …

The ‘Right2Chose’ is all about informing motorists that they can legally take their vehicle, even a brand new car, to be repaired or serviced at any independent garage without invalidating the vehicle’s manufactures warranty. This is a result of changes in 2002 to the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulations (BER).

These regulatory changes included the requirement for manufactures to make available technical data and repair instructions to the independent motor trade.

Cork Auto Services can service brand new cars as we are an approved service partner of Top Auto Service Centres. Top Auto Service Centres are committed to only using BER certified parts from leading original parts manufactures. Top Auto Service centres are registered MPM Oil Specialists which ensures the correct Original Equipment Oil fitted the first service in your vehicle continues to be fitted as part of our service programme.

What about my new car warranty?

Block Exemption Regulation (BER) states the independent repair centres CAN carry out normal service maintenance and repairs during a vehicles warranty period without invalidating the warranty conditions.

* Providing original equipment (OE) or machine quality parts are fitted.

All service parts supplied by Cork Auto Services (as a service partner of Top Auto Service Centres) comply with this regulation which means your warranty is upheld regardless of how new your vehicle is.

* Remember, vehicle manufactures may NOT make their warranties subject to you having your car serviced within their network, or on the exclusive use of their own branded spare parts. *

When should a new car have its first service?

The first service for a brand-new car is usually scheduled for 12 months or up to a specific mileage (it varies from 15,000 – 30,000 KM) – whichever comes first. This does differ between manufacturers but should be detailed in your vehicle handbook.

Do you need to service your car every year?

To keep your vehicle in the best possible condition and to make sure you get the most from your vehicle in terms of longevity and performance, we recommend you service your car every year. However, there can be some age/mileage exceptions, so it is best to speak to your garage.

Manufacturers recommend servicing your car every 18,000 – 20,000 KM approx,  or every 12 months, whichever comes first.

Also, keep in mind most up-to-date vehicles are fitted with ‘self-diagnostic’ feature, which will advise you when a car service is due. It is advisable to work with that schedule.
